Thanks to additional funding from the Crime Reduction Partnership Superblue have been able to build upon the consultation already carried out, and talk to local people about their vision for the structures, in order to finalise designs. They have spoken to people of all ages including open space users, sports groups, neighbourhood residents, local schools and community groups at three events over the summer.

The local community were invited to share their thoughts, knowledge and ideas to develop a new community space at their local park through events at the three sites in June and July 2009. Using three temporary ‘huts’, Superblue encouraged people to explore what the term ‘shelter’ meant to them, to think about the kinds of materials, textures and colours that would best suit the environment and to talk about the kinds of ways in which they might use the spaces - for resting, sitting, meeting friends, eating, talking, watching. Superblue spoke to at least 150 people over the course of these events and have captured the information from these discussions to inform their designs for the shelters and to ensure that these structures are right for the location.

The community are also being encouraged to keep up to date with the project as it progresses and continue to share their thoughts through a website and online forum set up at www.hertsmerecommunityspaces.org The site has so far received over 400 visitors and has been proving a popular and accessible way for people to learn about all aspects of the project.

Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for leisure, culture and health, said: "The vision is to create a small sheltered meeting space for the whole community to make use of and enjoy. The event at Phillimore Recreation Ground was a real success with lots of local people getting involved. The temporary structures are a great way for residents to start thinking about what kind of shelter they want and we had some great feedback. Young people especially seemed to enjoy writing and drawing on them."

Councillor Caroline Clapper said of the event at Radlett, "I was very pleased to see that consultation was taking place, to discover what the people in the area want, where they want it and what they need from it before any structure is erected. There seemed to be lots of input from many parishioners and I hope that the outcome of this consultation will be a shelter of beneficial community use to all residents."
