Developing Unique Community Meeting Spaces: Hertsmere
GHP is managing the design and construction of three innovative structures for use by young people and the wider community as shelters/ meeting places. The project supports the implementation of the Hertsmere Play Strategy and will be informed by the outcomes of community engagement with young people already carried out by Hertsmere in summer 07 and is funded through the Big Lottery.
GHP is working with Superblue:a collaborative group of artists, engineers, designers who work together on a variety of projects in the built environment and public realm, to lead on the project. Their practice covers an excellent range of skills and experience, they are very well-versed in managing design-build collaborative projects and engaging communities and have a body of innovative, fun and engaging work.
Superblue are working with Green Heart Partnership and the team of officers from the Parks and Amenities and Community Services teams at Hertsmere Borough Council, the Police and other stakeholders to develop the structures.
The final designs for three innovative, eye-catching, sculptural structures have now been presented. The spaces will provide appropriate shelter and seating at three separate open spaces: Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett, Furzefield in Potters Bar, and Moatfields in Bushey.
Superblue have held events at the three sites to involve the communities local to Phillimore Recreation Grounds, Furzefield and Moatfield in the creation of shelters in these local parks in June and July. The local community were invited to share their thoughts, knowledge and ideas to develop a new community space at their local park.
