The quality of the resulting design for the bridge attracted the attention of Go East, who recently agreed to contribute £2.2 million pounds to the new development, including £750,000 towards the new bridge.

GHP commissioned Alasdair Currie to continue working with Chetwood Associates to develop the designs for the new footbridge up to planning standard, on the Goods Yard development, to ensure quality and integrity of the whole design. At the request of the architects, Alasdair worked with them to bring the design from concept to working drawings. which were completed in December 2006. The bridge is now complete and open to the public.
Alasdair Currie, Artist, said:
“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of working as part of a design team on the Bishop Stortford bridge project. I was continually supported throughout by everyone at The Green Heart Partnership which was invaluable to me and helped keep a perspective and overview to the proceedings. I am happy to work within boundaries and do not find this any hindrance to the creative process. The architects also deserve much credit for allowing an unknown into their high pressured environment and sharing information and time generously - I learned a great deal about the graceful art of compromise from the team there. Mostly I just felt that I was a professional amongst other professionals which is surely all that artists want”.
Stephen Wilson, Arts Development Officer, said:
“Green Heart Partnership has made a tremendous difference with our team and the way in which we work. It was the success of the Sele Farm project that attracted my fellow officers to pull the GHP team into the section 106 negotiations”.
