Innovative Bridge Design: East Herts Goods Yard

New bridge completed 2008In 2006, GHP worked with East Herts Council, developer, Barratts Homes, architects, Chetwood Associates, and artist, Alasdair Currie, to create an innovative design for a new footbridge over the river in Bishops Stortford. The new bridge has now been built and is being actively used by local people in the area.

The Council’s Section 106 agreement with the developer had included the renovation of the existing footbridge linking a new housing development on the old Goodsyard site to the railway station. Alasdair worked closely with the architects to come up with an innovative new design to replace the footbridge which responded to the Council’s desire to improve accessibility, improve the links between the new housing development and the public transport infrastructure and support the existing biodiversity which had established itself around the old footbridge.
